Athletics Trade Rumors
Mlb is reporting Free agent Justin Duchscherer will be returning for a seventh season with the Oakland A's, agreeing in principle Thursday on a one-year deal that could be worth $5.5 million if he reaches his incentives, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick. Espn is reporting The Oakland Athletics and free agent outfielder Coco Crisp were on the verge of a contract agreement Sunday morning, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney confirmed through sources. Mlb blogs is reporting that Jason Giambi is not traveling with the A's while injured. Jason Giambi's homecoming was a nice little story over the winter and this spring, but it looks like it might be coming to an abrupt, inglorious end. Yahoo sports is asking the questions how much would the A's get for Holliday. The article states "It’s the reason Holliday continues to wear an A’s uniform. Had he performed to his usual All-Star level, teams would gladly give up two prospects and perhaps more for the privilege of renting Holliday. Instead, he’s stuck with a mediocre batting average (.276), a piddling home run tally (nine) and a slugging percentage 112 points below his career average (.539 to .427)."![]() JOE STRAUSS - ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH Increasingly impatient with their halting outfield production, the Cardinals are redoubling efforts to acquire Oakland A's left fielder Matt Holliday, according to club and other sources. Reluctant to commit a multi-player package to the Colorado Rockies for Holliday last November, the Cardinals are now open to sending a similar package to Oakland for the 2007 National League batting champion. The SFgate did an interview with Matt Holliday and he stated ""I would say if it looks like we're not going to be able to get back into the race or get healthy, I think every player wants a chance to win, and I'm no exception." he also stated in the interview ""I'd love to play in the postseason again. That was the time of my life in baseball was getting a chance to play in the postseason in 2007." The Mercury News is reporting that San Jose city council began working on a proposal to lure the Oakland A’s to San Jose. With many passionate people from San Jose stating their purposes for and against the move the “council unanimously decided to push forward with its still-uncertain pursuit”. The first day of the rest of Bobby Crosby's baseball life might have been on Monday, when he showed up at Phoenix Municipal Stadium and saw his name printed into the lineup at third base. The move came a day after the Yankees announced that third baseman Alex Rodriguez would be out for at least two months after hip surgery. Free agent infielder Nomar Garciaparra has made his decision: To continue playing baseball. Opting against retirement, Garciaparra is on the verge of signing a one-year deal with the A's, according to a major-league source. The Oakland Athletics are close to signing free agent Orlando Cabrera to a $4 million, one-year contract, likely ending former AL Rookie of the Year Bobby Crosby's disappointing tenure as the team's starting shortstop.
