Brewers Trade Rumors
Post Crescent is reporting The million dollar question — make that, the multi-million dollar question — all Milwaukee Brewers fans want to know is this:Is there any realistic chance of signing slugging first baseman Prince Fielder to a long-term contract extension? And, if so, is there any way to keep the cost of doing business from approaching the national debt? Yahoo sports is reporting Mark Attanasio is dissatisfied with the economics of the game he bought into five years ago, in spite of the fact his franchise’s value has probably doubled since. And while his complaints – subsequently slapped down by Yankees president Randy Levine – might seem disingenuous, perhaps they should be viewed as a service to his loyal customers. Jsonline is reporting Rightfielder Corey Hart was not worried about his job status until he saw that others were.Mainly GM Doug Melvin and manager Ken Macha. One has been reported to have shopped Hart with at least the Washington Nationals while Melvin and Macha have each said they don't know if Hart, an all-star in 2008, will be the opening day starter in right. JSOnline is reporting To string together the number of victories the Milwaukee Brewers need to climb back into the playoff race, their pitching staff must stop getting pummeled by some of the worst teams in the league. Milwaukee Brewers fire Castro, send Hardy to minors, designate Hall for assignmentThe Chicago Tribune is reporting The slumping Milwaukee Brewers have sent former All-Star shortstop J.J. Hardy to the minors, given up on third baseman Bill Hall and fired pitching coach Bill Castro. jslonline is reporting The deadline has passed for the Brewers to work out a deal with Arizona for left-hander Doug Davis and there has been no announcement, so I have to assume he'll remain with the D-Backs.![]() Fox Sports is reporting the Brewers are not confident that they will acquire Diamondbacks left-hander Doug Davis, according to a major-league source. mlb.com is reporting I just called Brewers general manager Doug Melvin to see if the news of Jeff Suppan's rib-cage strain -- an injury that often sends a pitcher to the disabled list -- changes his plan of attack for Friday's nonwaiver trade deadline. The answer was no. "We're still looking for guys who are available," Melvin said. "We'd like to get a starter. We'll have to wait a few days before we find out [about Suppan]. We'll evaluate then." The Azcentral.com is reporting that the Brewers and Diamondbacks are discussing a trade. Brewers Assistant General Manager Gord Ash wasn't specific on which players the teams have discussed, but Diamondbacks left-hander Doug Davis and Felipe Lopez are two names that would make sense logically. MVN.Com is reporting that the Brewers and Cubs are lacking that something to take them "over the top". The site is reporting that Heading into this season, the Brewers knew that their pitching wouldn't be as good as it was down the stretch last season. Given the strength of their offense, however, they figured to be in okay shape, and one of the best records in baseball through May reinforced that idea. Unfortunately, things have gone downhill for the Brewers pretty quickly.
