Mariners Rumors
Fox Sports is reporting The Mariners have initiated long-term contract discussions with right-hander Felix Hernandez, but the two sides are far apart, according to a major-league source.![]() Posted by Larry Stone A few stories about Felix Hernandez are emerging from the first day of the GM Meetings in Chicago, and Jack Zduriencik is saying pretty much what he's said all along: The Mariners are fully intent on signing Hernandez, but they are keeping their options open. The Seattle Times is reporting Erik Bedard was back in the Mariners' clubhouse Saturday, wearing a shoulder brace and sling after surgery Friday on his left shoulder. Angels team physician Dr. Lewis Yo***** repaired a torn labrum. Seattle times is reporting Lost in all of the hoopla surrounding the trade deadline and yesterday's departure of Jarrod Washburn was the flurry of teams that are said to have tried to pry Felix Hernandez loose from the Mariners. We have obviously been discussing this for the past few days. Hernandez is set to become a free-agent after 2011, will be in Roy Halladay's shoes one year from now and was going to be seen by teams at this year's deadline as an even better alternative than Toronto's ace because of an extra year of team control. Next Season sports is reporting a multitude of trade ideas that could happen for the M's in the next day and a half. Would the M's move Ichiro? No matter how you look at it, these Mariners are overachievers. They may carry a record of 51-47, but they’ve been outscored by 38 runs. A much worse team, the Oakland Athletics, have been outscored by 39 runs and are 41-56. The Mariners are as bad as the Athletics, but maybe more like the New York Mets, who are 46-51, and have also been outscored by 39 runs. Mlb fanhouse is reporting that Two sources from clubs looking for starting pitching told FanHouse on Tuesday night that they believe the Mariners are inclined to hold on to Washburn and make a run at re-signing him.![]() Next season sports is reporting an interview with News Tribune's Ryan Divish. If you are a M's fan this is a great interview to get insight into the M's now and in the future. The Tacoma times has an article on what the 2nd half will look like. Many questions were asked and answered. Will Erik Bedard be a member of the Seattle Mariners at the end of the season? How about Jarrod Washburn? Will Adrian Beltre play another game in Safeco Field this season? There are many more.. Gordon Edes of Yahoo sports is reporting that the M's move yesterday to Trade Batencourt was a good move. Batencourt was not producing and they picked up some great yound prospects. The Mariners acquired 6-foot-6 right-hander Dan Cortes, rated as the Royals’ top pitching prospect coming into this season, plus Class-A left-handed reliever Derrick Saito. Jon Paul Morosi of Fox Sports is reporting that the M's are waiting to see how the team does before the all star break before they decide to make any moves. The Mariners, running a close third in the American League West, will probably wait about two weeks before moving definitively on the trade market.Already, though, they have engaged in preliminary discussions with the Padres about third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff, according to one source with knowledge of the talks. The person added that the chances for a deal — at this point, at least — are not strong. But San Diego officials have made clear to other clubs that Kouzmanoff is available.
