Post Crescent is reporting The million dollar question — make that, the multi-million dollar question — all Milwaukee Brewers fans want to know is this:
Is there any realistic chance of signing slugging first baseman Prince Fielder to a long-term contract extension? And, if so, is there any way to keep the cost of doing business from approaching the national debt?
"We try to keep that quiet, the negotiations," Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said on Wednesday during a pit stop at Wave Bar & Ballroom, which served as the backdrop of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers' annual Leadoff Experience welcome banquet.
"It's hard to give it a day-by-day blow on it. It's something that we keep close, in-house. But we've indicated we'd like to keep him, and he's indicated he'd like to stay. But we know between those two statements, there's a lot of negotiation going on."
Melvin scurried to Grand Chute via Milwaukee's Miller Park, where he watched the Crew rally to earn a 5-4 afternoon victory over Colorado to win two out of three in the season-opening series.
