Ellsbury could be done for the season

Jacoby Ellsbury is scheduled to return to Boston today and could be shut down for the season after his exam in Los Angeles with Dr. Lewis Yo***** revealed a possible rib fracture, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

 News from Nationals Park

Washington Nationals blank

The main topic of conversation today has been Jason Marquis, and I'll have a more lengthy blog item coming on him in a little bit. But in the meantime, here are a couple notes before the game:

--Garrett Mock is back at Nationals Park, and was playing catch before today's game. Manager Jim Riggleman said Mock is confident he's getting better, and is now guessing Mock's cervical spinal disc injury had something to do with his struggles at the end of the spring. "We saw a guy last year that pitched the last five, six weeks of the season up here, getting ground balls and balls sinking," Riggleman said."We saw a guy throughout spring training that the movement was just flat in the strike zone, just across the plate instead of down. So I would say that probably had something to do with it."

--Mike Morse is about ready to go on a rehab assignment; Riggleman said he will soon be able to do more aggressive running, and the Nationals would send him to Single-A Potomac, Hagerstown or Triple-A Syracuse soon after that.

--The Nationals have "taken a few calls" on reliever Jason Bergmann, who was designated for assignment last week, but there's no deal immediately imminent for the right-hander. "We've taken a few calls. We're still in the inquiry stage," Rizzo said. "We still have a few days to do something. Nothing to announce."
