Tigers Rumors
Si is reporting The Florida Marlins acquired left-hander Nate Robertson from the Detroit Tigers for left-hander Jay Voss on Tuesday. The trade enables Robertson to start with the Marlins and assures left-hander Dontrelle Willis a spot in the Detroit rotation. Robertson started six games and also spent time in the bullpen for the Tigers last season, finishing 2-3 with a 5.44 ERA in 28 appearances. Mlive is reporting Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland said the lineup he posted for Saturday's game was his opening day lineup with one possible exception. The Detroit news is reporting Opening bids for Curtis Granderson and Edwin Jackson have plainly been underwhelming, or Dave Dombrowski, the Tigers president and general manager known for a fast trigger-finger, would by now have dealt at least one of two star players on the block during what could be a volatile offseason for the Tigers. mlb.com is reporting The fact that the Tigers didn't have to give up a lot for Jarrod Washburn, and didn't have to give up highly-rated prospects, means they're still talking with teams about beefing up their offense before today's nonwaiver trade deadline. Fox Sports is reporting The Tigers have a wide range of needs and have spoken with the Mariners about left-hander Jarrod Washburn. As of Thursday night, though, they weren't optimistic about their chances of making a big trade, according to one major-league source familiar with their conversations. Mlb.com is reporting that the Tigers have shown interest in adding a backup catcher and another reliever for the stretch run, adding to the shopping list for Detroit heading towards Friday's nonwaiver trade deadlines. The goal of the backup catching list would reportedly be for offense to supplement starter Gerald Laird, whose average has fallen to .233 as his workload continues to pile up. Mlb Dialy Dish is reporting that Ordonez could be released. As the deadline gets closer the possibility of a release increases. Tigers manager Jim Leyland would like to keep him in the lineup against left handed pitchers. Rob Neyer of ESPN.com is reporting thatYesterday I ran across this discussion of players who will most help their teams when they come back from injuries. Well, Carlos Guillen is sort of the opposite; he sort of falls under the heading, "Players who their clubs will least miss if they don't come back" (Eric Chavez is among the others in that group). The chicagotribune.com is reporting that the Detroit Tigers have concerns about putting too much responsibility on the young pitchers. Rick Porcello and Ryan Perry are struggling with big league hitting. The Detroit Tigers might need to add a Veteran to take some of the pressure off Porcello and Perry. With one of his strongest replies to any question he's been asked in his current role as the Tigers president and general manager and chief executive officer, Dave Dombrowski on Tuesday called the repeated speculation he's heard on ESPN that the Tigers could make Miguel Cabrera available for a trade this season "completely absurd."
